Manchester Terrier (Standard)

The Standard Manchester Terrier breed profile is sponsored by www.PetWearUSA.com visit PetWear to custom design your Manchester Terrier's next designer dog collar, leash or more and then let PetWear hand make it and then ship for free!

The Standard Manchester Terrier is a masterpiece of clean lines and effectiveness.  Naturally erect ears and natural button ears (pictured above) occur in the breed.  As judging shows no preference for one over another, the fancier must question why cropping the natural ear is not only common but acceptable.  Nevertheless, the Manchester Terrier, despite its seriously Terrier history and purpose is a non-sparring breed.  It would be a mistake to then think they are low-key for they are very vigilant and alert but there is an efficiency of thought and motion often lacking in many other Terriers.

Trainer notes: While many keep the Manchester Terrrier and never take any training beyond the basics, this is a dog that will seek a special task or job to offer the world.  In many cases this may be keeping the family entertained, initiating lots of play or even being particularly active during walks.  Nevertheless, this nature is fertile soil for anyone who'd love to see a Manchester in the Agility ring or competing in Flyball or other sports.  The Manchester is not just a natural athlete physically but mentally he/she consistently demonstrates a tenacity and focus rivaled by top competitors the world over.  This is a dog that "gets it".  They want to be better, faster, more precise, they can learn the details of an exercise and not lose any of their vitality to perform it.  Positive training methods will only enhance their desire for excellence (or to their point of view, ability to please their trainer).  Definitely a frequently overlooked but excellent consideration for a training partner.
